Introducing our town to our Erasmus partners

One of the first activities that we worked on in El Peñascal (Segovia, Spain) was the introduction of our beautiful town, Segovia, to our partners.

Year 4 first studied the vocabulary required for describing the town.  We then wrote sentences using the structures of “there is/there are”. Following this we looked at simple texts describing other towns. Next, we talked about the special features of Segovia. Finally using a writing frame, we wrote about Segovia.

We later researched the ‘highlights’ of Segovia such as the aqueduct, the Alcázar castle, the Cathedral, the Main Square, the beautiful surroundings and the old Minting house and went out to become reporters! Fantastic work!

Our Erasmus task for March was to mark and celebrate Pi day. Pi day is the 14th of March (the 14th day of the 3rd month creating the number 3.14). Internationally it is a day that is recognised for celebrating and appreciating mathematics. In year 5 we started by watching a video which explained to us the history of Pi, how it is used to calculate the circumference of a circle and why pi day is celebrated. We were then divided into teams of three and had a multiple intelligence Pi day gymkhana. We had six different Pi related tasks to carry out. We used QR codes to obtain each task which we could access once we had correctly carried out the previous task. Besides learning about the number Pi the activities were designed to work using the different intelligence types. These included linguistic, maths and logic, music, interpersonal, kinesthetic and visual intelligence. We had a great morning! Year 4 In year 4 we investigated circles. We learnt about how to use Pi to calculate the ...
